20 Thoughts On Turning 20

-Manideepa Paul

With every turn the Earth takes around the Sun, we get a bit older even though it doesn’t really feel like. Some ages seem fun while others seem almost unreal with an added sense of responsibility. Once we hit 20, it's groundbreaking that the teen years are over. We are technically referred to as an adult when really that could be the furthest thing we feel from. We may not be as young as we thought we were and there may be some new thoughts coming up as our 20th birthday approaches. Here's some to really get you feeling like an adult and the 20 years old you are now to be!

1. Goodbye teen years, Hello the 20s!

We all remember what it was to be like turning 13 when we couldn’t wait to be officially called a teenager and that probably was the coolest part of our life. But now those years are over and it’s time to embrace the new chapter of our lives. Not to mention, as people have said it before… the twenties will be the best part of our lives.

2. Only one more year until I'm fully legal.

Yes! The miraculous age of 21 is just a year away. Turning 20 might make us an adult yet we cannot do EVERYTHING. “So close, yet so far” yes just 365 days to go mates.

3. Survived teenage roller-coaster.

Congratulations! We did it. While going through the teen ages, it did seem like the world is crashing down on us whenever anything went wrong. Having passed that and zooming out of the phase, we at least learned how to deal with some of the stuff. Right?

4. These friends are probably here to stay!

Cheers to all of them! By the time we hit 20, we surely have made some decisions- good or bad, and the people who stayed by your side during all these years of ups and downs, you can count on them to stay for the rest of the days.

5. Two decades worth of impact.

It might feel weird, but we have been here for almost two decades now and all the decisions we have made this far on the journey have built up an impact (however small it may be) on our lives and of others too. Pretty big, eh?

6. Am I old enough for this?

Even though we might be a 20-year-old, we don’t know if we are young for certain things. Like I was a teen few days ago!

7. Am I young enough for this?

While some days you may question whether you are too young for certain things, others will put you in the dilemma of having choices of a teenager. Like is it okay to watch all the Disney Original Movies and go crazy about Jonas Brothers or is it frowned upon? Can’t the girl live by the life hacks and lessons from Hannah Montana?

8. 2009 feels like a few days ago!

That was the year when I got introduced with the gems of Disney and was literally obsessed over Miley Cyrus’s chic outfits and Joe Jonas’s not-so-cute hairstyle. And that was 10 years ago? Let that sink in. Ughhh!

9. .... and in 10 years I'll be 30!!

Another ground-breaking thing. Yup, 30

10. I have to knowingly remember that I am 20.

This can be a really strange thing. When someone will ask you your age, and you are about to say 19, but you pause for a second and tell your actual age. Happens to most of us, right? Consciously remembering that you are a 20-year-old.

11. Wait... So I'm a real adult now?

I was a teenager just a few days back and now I have a new label: “adult”. And suddenly I am expected to be wiser and more mature whereas I barely know how to schedule my own doctor’s appointment… Help?

12. Can my mom still tell me what to do?

When will I stop relying on my mom for umm… everything? Can she still tell me what to do? Can I still get in trouble?

13. I should get an actual job or something?

Yep, 20 will definitely make you feel this. If not yet, wait for a couple more years around and boom…So, maybe a career soon? 20 might be the time to start looking for it…

14. Wait... High school was two years ago?

Another let-that-sink-in fact. And it will be soon enough when the college gets over. How time flies!

15. Is it still okay to not have a clue about my finances and taxes?

What taxes? What bills? What savings? How much do I owe for my student loans? Someone, anyone help!

16. Should I be in a serious relationship now?

Maybe I should get in a relationship so that people won’t think I’m going to die alone or incapable of love? Or maybe not. Seriously your friends blabbering about their love life is sometimes too annoying to take in.

17. Seriously how far can I go in life depending on Maggi?

Maybe it’s time I should learn to cook something else other than this for the sake of surviving. But, then again, delivery, takeout, and starvation to death are always open options.

18. Oh! My resume!

Oh yes! Almost forgot this. So I’m 20 now and it’s time I should have one of these right? So tell me what is it and how do I go about that?

19. Wondering about the future and stuff.

No matter how much you wanna escape this, it is a thought that you will definitely ponder on some time or the other. Maybe in the shower or in bed at night? Or even in a boring class.

And I’ll leave you with this one last thought

20. Halfway up to 40! Cheers!

Cheers to that! The year will be 2030 or 2040 and we’re halfway to our graves. Has aliens and mutated humans taken over the planet yet? Are we seeing UFOs as a pretty basic thing? Is India a superpower yet? Guess we’ll find out. Happy Birthday in advance folks!

Knowing the Six strings

- Manideepa Paul “ Anything which the individual does on his own out of interest gives the individual a feeling of productivity, a sense of achieving something and in turn happiness.” This might sound a little too bookish and artful but such was exactly my case when I decided to give a try to learn Guitar! From my very childhood I had a knack and desire for learning guitar but break never befell. Well somehow after around 9-10 years (yes! That long ughh…) the chance finally arrived!. In the fresherman year I started saving up some money and within a month or two I had enough fund for getting my hands on the guitar. Yeah about how I got that much in such a short time is a topic of another time, I’ll list them here sometime later if you wanna too save some money too. Next was how to learn how to play it, yeah i know you can learn anything nowadays from YouTube and other online sources but since I’m waaaay too lazy to do that all by myself , like what if i

Start of the Journey

Start of the Journey So, here we are, two weird and enigmatic souls, with their small era of life experiences ready to set their pack horse of stories free. It was seventh standard, almost 8 years after being admitted in the same school, me and my partner Manideepa, finally had the same section and commodious poss ibilities of knowing each other. I still remember her innocent timid face getting into the classroom each day after all the students had already selected their benches. We always captured the last benches and I welcomed her saying ‘Brett Lee’ as people in France says ‘ Bonjour ’. The reason is not very descriptive though. Our daily gossips were unlike what girls of that ages would go about, Well it was the age of Justin Bieber and TTIS. I got a Justin bieber poster from the middle page of first subscribed paper of TTIS (I still regret my JB phase to this day). But the real kicker was that Manideepa didn’t have one as she was absent on that day of school
